Coordinator RISE Research Institutes of Sweden AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 9 645 744
Project duration July 2024 - December 2026
Status Ongoing
Venture Advanced digitalization - Enabling technologies

Purpose and goal

The project will strengthen Sweden´s position in future digital solutions by combining the advantages of edge computing and 5G networks. The project includes four testbeds, financed by EU CEF2 Digital fund and a Developer community is created around these testbeds for collaboration between researchers, companies and the public sector. This will accelerate the deployment of public and private 5G networks with edge capabilities and drive technological progress for both the private and public sectors.

Expected effects and result

Combining fast 5G networks with powerful computing power enables real-time processing of data close to the source, critical for applications such as autonomous driving and industrial automation. By promoting collaborations and knowledge exchange between researchers, companies and the public sector, the project will drive the development of advanced digital solutions and next-generation communication networks. This will result in increased innovation and strengthen Sweden´s competitiveness and technological progress, both nationally and internationally.

Planned approach and implementation

The project consists of building a Developer community with common infrastructure and common use cases. This will be done through events across the country linked to the testbeds, such as workshops and hackathons. Here, all project actors, both need owners and developers, will participate together with other invited stakeholders and collaborate to design requirements and solutions for these use cases. A web portal will be developed and be a hub and an online meeting place where participants can get information about the test beds, seek help and share experiences.
